Designer: Shaun Jordan
‘I’m a Filipino/British fashion print designer at CSM. Using both my heritage and references from cultural dysphoria, my designs question menswear silhouettes by juxtaposing female nuances.’... ‘My Cristobal Balenciaga project comments on the hometown of the very place Cristobal was raised from (Getaria, Spain). Personally visiting the hometown myself, I grew enamoured by the landscapes, how the hills varied in height as they tip ever so close to the sea. It was also a refreshing/liberating moment to be able to escape from London, which can at times be overwhelming. ‘ I particularly took interest in his hometown and the bulbous feminine dresses he created. Which I wanted to juxtapose on the menswear point of view. The silhouette was informed by the mountainous landscape whilst the lenticular lines replicated the concept of topography. The underdress was create via sublimation containing liquified variations of the map locating Getaria and Bilbao. For more information on Shaun Jordan - https://www.instagram.com/modernwannabe/
'The moral of my concept is to provide an appreciation to Cristobal Balenciaga’s heritage by recognising the importance of where you come from and the beauty of nostalgia and where these experiences set future journey’s.’ Shaun Jordan. The Cristobal Balenciaga project was a Central Saint Martins collaboration project with the Official Balenciaga museum based in Getaria, Spain (Museo Balenciaga). All CSM students were offered a trip to visit the museum to look at archival pieces created by Cristobal Balenciaga. Returning from Spain the students were given a task to create a concept that odes to the designer's lifework.
